Columbia's Department of English and Comparative Literature has played a significant role in the history of literary study in the United States and abroad since its inception. With a large faculty of renowned scholars and dedicated teachers, our department offers a wide range of courses, recognizing traditional values in the discipline yet.

Applicants who have a master’s degree in psychology from a recognized university are normally admitted fully to the PhD program, although on occasion, a student may be admitted provisionally. In this case, students would be fully admitted to the PhD program after successfully completing the first year of graduate study in our department.

Evening and Columbia Summer Courses. The department normally offers at least one lab course (currently PSYC UN1420 RESEARCH METHODS - HUMAN BEHAVIOR and PSYC UN1450 Experimental Psychology: Social Cognition and Emotion) in the late afternoon with evening labs.A number of other courses are occasionally offered in late afternoon and evening hours.
